In which the human comedy perpetuates itself...

In the past four months since my last blog post, there's no telling how many times I thought of this website or even visited and thought about posting a new blog and then for whatever pathetic reason decided against it or was distracted by something else. I keep falling into this trap, no matter how hard I try. I think its a good idea to let some time pass between blog posts so that I'll have something to post about but the time slips away. As a result of posting one now, I'm stuck with the challenge of recapping what I've been doing for the past 4 months (or not). Let's see how I do...

I turned 40 in September. Didn't make a big deal out of it. I don't feel any different (was told by friends/family that I probably won't until 50). I took two vacation days and spent four days with my parents, younger sister and then 18-month old nephew (his mother was recovering from bile duct cancer surgery so the parents were looking after him; she's doing well). There was a little bit of a party, a handful of gifts were exchanged (all practical gifts, no toys) and Dairy Queen ice cream cake was devoured. All in all, a success.

Finally upgrading my phone later that month felt like a quality of life improvement although that's probably depressing and embarassing on my part. I've been roughing it out with an HTC model that was 6 years old (I've owned it for 4 years) and I desperately needed an upgrade. I was talking to a friend who's a bit of a tech enthusiast (especially when it comes to smartphones) for advice to upgrading. In the process of this discussion, he offered to mail me - free of charge - an unlocked Nokia 7.1 smartphone that his wife used to use (the whole family upgraded to those fancy Google Pixel phones that recently came out). I checked with Verizon (my provider) to make sure the device could work with my prepaid plan, it was confirmed and five days later this beautiful, like-new Nokia phone arrived with the box, the charger, all the inserts, everything. Not a scratch on the phone. Switched everything over and this phone - only a 2-year old model - works perfectly and better in every way. Plenty of internal memory. Don't know if I'll play games on it although that could easily be arranged.

(I'm also beginning to wonder if my life is truly that interesting enough to blog about at this point....)

Gaming wise, there's been a few new additions but the old standbys are around because they have to be: Animal Crossing NH, LOZ:BOTW, GTA Online, Red Dead Online, Gears 5 Horde Mode. I made friends with a Twitch streamer named TheVirginRose and his favorite game at the moment is Minecraft Dungeons, which he got me into. A few of my friends kept pressing me to get Marvel's Avengers so I bought that. From what I've played so far, I'm digging it even though it's a buggy as hell game. I also recently bought Super Mario Odyssey (finally) but I'm postponing starting that as I'm still into the previously mentioned Switch games. But maybe I can squeeze it in sooner than I think...

Anyway, it's late as I'm typing this. I'll post more soon about movies/tv shows I've been watching as well as other things. I love that this website endures with such a wonderful community and I clearly take it for granted. I'll try not to make that mistake from here on out.

Stay safe, everyone!

I'm turning 44 in January. It's not so bad. I've been taking care of myself better, so less aches and pains.

Congrats on your phone. I have an iPhone 6s still. I guess it's six years old? Planning on upgrading later this year. I really want a bigger phone.

Super Mario Odyssey was really great. I realy enjoyed it. I don't finish a lot of games, but I finished this one. I really liked the exploration aspect of it, something I felt was missing in the games since Mario 64.

Good to hear from you. I started having a few issues at 47 like needing reading glasses. My Dr. said that's when he started needing them too.
