Personal Best of 2020

I'm playing games from 2019-2021 this month (after I finish with ME: Andromeda), and so this is my 2020 list of favorities and ones I'd like to play if I get the time. The list is in order of release. It's as if these were the games I bought day-one - some, yes, but most no.

1/28 - Journey to The Savage Planet: Naturalist field work on an alien planet is how I describe it. I loved it so much I bought a new physical copy for Xbox One. It's still sealed. I still need to play the DLC though.
1/30 - Patapon 2 Remastered: I wish they'd put out Patapon 3 remastered after this, but so far not. I have this digitally on my PS4. I used to own all the PSP physical games (1-3) but traded them along with my PSP. At least I still have some way to play 1 and 2.
3/20 - Doom Eternal/Doom 64: The sequel to 2016's Doom is just as great, if not greater. I was thrilled that they released Doom 64 as well. This was actually a new game for the N64 and not a port of Doom 1 or 2 as I used to think.
4/24 - Trials of Mana remake: I just played some of it on Game Pass a few weeks ago and liked it. It seemed similar in style to a Tales game or even Ni No Kuni II that I just played. I think the remake is quite different from the original, but I'm not sure.
5/13 - Super Mega Baseball 3: Arcade-style sports games are what I like especially if there's a bit of humor mixed in as well: NBA Jam, Ready2Rumble Boxing, Facebreaker, stuff like that.
7/17 - Paper Mario: Origami King: I don't know much about this except that I like Paper Mario games a lot, and I can't wait to see what they did with origami. I may rent it first from the awesome library I work at.
7/28 - Destroy All Humans Remastered: At the time, I couldn't believe they had released this again. I played it a lot on OG Xbox in 2005. They even added a multiplayer and/or challenge mode, if I remember right.
9/18 - Commandos 2 Remastered: I used to own this on OG Xbox. I loved the turn-based nature of it and what seemed to me at the time excellent graphics. I have never played it though.
9/22 - 13 Sentinels Agis Rim: A Vanillaware game I can't wait to play. I saw a physical copy recently but for too much, but I will own it one day.
10/13 - Torchlight 3: I've played 1 and 2 of this series but not 3. It's a great action RPG in the style of a Gauntlet or Diablo.
10/30 - Pikmin 3 Deluxe: I recently played this on Wii-U but didn't like the control scheme. I found out later I can change that, but I'm curious how it plays on Switch. It probably looks a little sharper too.
11/10 - Forza Horizon 4: It dropped on Game Pass day-one which is at least one reason why I still have the service. Do I need a physical copy? Only if it gets delisted like Forza Horizon 1-3 on Xbox Series X|S. Why, I have to ask, just why? Now I need a Xbox One again. Sheesh!
11/12 - Demon's Souls: I guess it's a remastered version for the then new PS5? I loved the graphics in this game from its first release on PS3, better than any souls game except maybe equal to Bloodborne. I am terrible at playing it though. It would be a kind of a joyful masocism to replay this in 4K when I get a PS5.
11/17 - Serious Sam Collection: I always have to pick up the latest rerelease of a Serious Sam game. This collects the first three main series entries. I've followed Croteam's Serious Sam from its early PC roots (2001?). It's just some good run-and-gun mayhem.
12/2 - State of Decay 2: I discovered this survival horror zombie game on Game Pass a year or so ago and had a lot of fun with it. I'm usually not that into horror games either.
12/24 - Earth Defense Force: World Brothers: This was a pixelated, almost Lego-like, iteration of the Earth Defense Force series of third-person, run-and-gun action games. My friend Mark and I would've have played it if it was on Xbox (we played the first three in the series exhaustively) but, alas, it is exclusive to PS4 and Switch. I got the Switch version on a sale just a few months ago. Time to get to it soldier!

And that is my 2020. What was your favorites that year?

Well if you want to know what I liked best in 2020, you can always read this:

But the clear winner was definitely Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

The closest I'm come to an Animal Crossing game is Farm Together and I just learned Farm Together 2 is coming to Xbox next year! I can't wait.

If they ever made Minecraft 2 you'd be in big trouble.

They kind of did with the latest version that expanded the world's limits by two times. It really slowed and stopped me playing it.

It's some fun run-and-gun with huge amounts of enemies on screen. It's not winning any graphics or deep story writting awards though.
