I finished Earth Defense Force: Iron Rain finally. I then picked up EDF 5 on a black Friday sale and started playing that. I'm debating whether to continue with it into December.

EDF Iron Rain:

This is a spinoff of the main series. It shares some design decisions made for EDF: Insect Armageddon that are supposedly aimed at western audiences. This basically means everything is a little simpler, the UI, the gameplay, the battles. As a westerner, I much prefer the main series. The problem I felt with this spinoff is that most battles end up being scrums in a single location with enemies piling on as fast as you get rid of them. I like the main series style of larger settings and lots of movement across the environments. But, I did enjoy it. I had some trouble with the final mission (mission 52). I had to shuffle weapons around to get the ones with enough range to take out the regeneration saucers around the boss. Then I couldn't seem to get the boss. I just shot and shot. So I do what I do with any EDF game when I get stuck, go farming for weapons on earlier levels. I upped the difficulty to Hard and marched through the first 15 levels or so until I had a few new weapons. Then I returned and, with a lot of patience, finally defeated the boss and got a credit scroll. Well, I'm done with this game for now because I got EDF5 on a sale and started that, and, boy, am I feelin' the groove with the main series game. This is the good stuff. More on that as the weeks go on.

I did break out the Switch to check on black Friday sales and got Golf Story finally for like $4. I'm eyeing the Etrian Odyssey Origins trilogy that's half off right now, but I may miss the sale if I don't get back online until next Tuesday, when I play again with my friend Mark. I just got $10 Nintendo money from reciept scanning, so I need to get to it. The first three EO games for $20 would be a very nice price to pay.

Hope your Thanksgiving was good. It's all about Xmas now.

I always wanted to try Golf Story.  I think I even tried to request a review copy of it.
