Episode 239: State of the Generation 2022

Posted on 12/22/2022 at 07:44 PM | Filed Under Feature

I wanted to let yall know that your latest show that is currently on the apple podcast app is from Sept 28.  I just realized I hadn't seen a new episode in awhile and found them on another source.

Also, just listened to the episode where Julian was talking about the X-Men omnibuses.  In case he hasn't seen it yet, Amazon has volume 5 as coming out next June.

Yakuza Like a Dragon: 7 Compliments and 7 Complaints

You can run from battle, on the PlayStation you hold L1. It doesn't always work on the first attempt, but if I keep trying it usually works before I cycle through all my characters.

Fuck Goty Lists This Year

Yeah, there's lot of good games this year.  Too many really.  I'm currently 5 hours into Persona 5 and already know that I'll at least enjoy it as l much as the last two Persona games, which are two of my favorite games of all time.  Resident Evil 7 was also a really fun game.  I haven't played Zelda or Nier yet, but I plan to.  I also really want to play Nioh, Thimbleweed Park, Yakuza 0, Gravity Rush 2, Mass Effect (despite the bad reviews), South Park, Danganronpa 3, and the new Mario (I think that's supposed to come out this year?) .  Isn't the remake of Final Fantasy 7 also supposed to come out this year?

At 62, How Long Will I Keep Gaming?

Posted on 02/17/2017 at 09:33 PM | Filed Under Blogs

I'm not excited about the large majority of AAA games, but just due to the sheer number of them I still find plenty that I enjoy. I also play alot of indie and B and C-Tier games. I find myself actually wishing that I agreed with people that say that there are no longer many good games coming out, because if that were truly the case then I might actually be able to play all the games that I read about and want to try out.

The one thing I am scared of about getting older and playing games is my ability to actually play them. I'm only 36, but for years my fingers (and most joints) have ached.  Working a job that is mostly at a computer doesn't help.  My wife also recently talked me into getting a 'nice looking' desk for my computer set-up and the height of it lines up with my chair in just the right way that it hurts my back, shoulders, and elbows to use the keyboard and mouse.  I'll be looking for a new chair soon to hopefully alleviate this.

Gaming's Greatest Remakes #13: Day of the Tentacle Remastered

Posted on 02/17/2017 at 09:17 PM | Filed Under Blogs

As a big fan of Maniac Mansion, I was super excited when the original version of DOTT came out. I remember it was back when CD games were first becoming a thing and they advertised the CD-ROM version as a "Talkie," meaning that it had spoken dialogue.  It quickly became one of my all-time favorite games.  When this remake came out I hadn't played the game for probably about two decades (holy shit I just realized how long it's been and how much older I am), but I bought it day one on the PS4 and enjoyed playing through it again.

BaD #4 - Making a list

As others have mentioned, if you like games like Firewatch you'll probably also enjoy Life is Strange.  Gone Home is another 'walking simulator' game that I enjoyed, and it recently came to the PSN.

For puzzle games, I'd recommend The Talos Principle.  It's kind of like The Witness, although the puzzles are a little easier (The Witness can get extremely frustrating).  I'd compare the puzzles to Portal, where they are just hard enough to make you feel good when you complete one, but not so difficult that they feel cheap.  Its also got a pretty neat story to go along with it.

I need to play this again.  I originally played it on PC and loved it.  I think I've since bought it on both the PS3 and PS4 but haven't played it on either.

BaD #2 - The games we play

Posted on 02/03/2017 at 06:36 AM | Filed Under Blogs

I pretty much play and have fun with all types of games, from the most simple FPSs and platformers to really dense RPGs, but I really do enjoy a good story. When I first discovered graphic adventure games as a kid I fell in love with them, despite the fact that the video gamey parts of them were mostly non-existant.  I still seek out games with a good story, and I really loved Firewatch.  I thought it was extremely well written and well acted and the pacing was just right.  The length was also perfect for what it was.  At my age i prefer games to be shorter (although I'll still probably be putting close to 100 hours into Persona 5 when it comes out).

Gaming's Greatest Remakes #2: Karateka

I had forgotten about this remake, but I had a good time with it when it first came out.  I spent alot of time playing the original game on the Commodore 64 back when I was a kid.

Like I said, Obama's wasn't a ban (and was one instance, not five like you mentioned), just a slow down in the vetting process. (Which again, resulted in a vetting process that can take over 1.5 years and is still in place - so to act like we are not vetting properly seems kind of a reach).   And it was because of a specific threat.  And it didn't take all the agencies by surprise, so it didn't result in nearly as much confusion.  So I don't see how you think they are similar.

I just find these types of arguments his apologists make to defend him annoying.  While I strongly disagree, I understand why someone might support what Trump has done.  Just don't try to justify it by making false equivalencies.
