For the record, I'm gonna make my game a live PlayBit tomorrow night! Spooky scary!
Games I Play on Halloween: A Spooktacular Round Table
The Pixlbit Staff shares some of their favorite games that go bump in the night.
Silent Hill
For me, it simply doesn't get any scarier than Silent Hill. The core series fills me with dread, but I'll stick to the original here, which you can get on PSN for the price of a song.
I dread going to Silent Hill. I can't stay away from Silent Hill. When I played the first game, it affected me in ways that I had not thought possible. I didn't watch scary movies at the time, and up until that point, the only scary games I had played were the Resident Evil games. But RE is all about the jump scares, while Silent Hill gets into your head and stays there. I remember distinctly playing that game one night and I was so scared that I wanted to turn off my PSX. The only problem was, I was too scared to hop off of my couch, cross the room, and turn the system off. I had to hunt down my TV remote, switch the input back to live television, and only then could I turn off my PSX. When I finished Silent Hill, I traded it in the very next day. I wanted it out of my house, and I swore that I would never play a sequel. But when Silent Hill 2 came out, I couldn't avoid it. It was like I was drawn back into the creepy town. I was compelled to play it; I had no choice.
Now I just accept the fact that I'm going to play the next Silent Hill game. I still dread it, but I can't stay away. If you've never played the original game, give it a spin. The archaic graphics actually add to the terror, even on newer televisions. Just don't expect to sleep well afterwards.
