Microsoft E3 2012 Conference Yields Several Game Announcements
New games include LocoCycle, Matter and Wreckateer.
Microsoft held their E3 2012 conference this morning and many game announcements were made. These include two new Kinect games, something new from Twisted Pixel, Kinect functionality in two EA sports titles, and more.
Madden NFL 13, as well as FIFA 13, will implement Kinect functionality. In Madden, you can use the Kinect's voice recognition technology to hike the ball, flip the run, call audibles, and call out player specific hot routes. Defensive commands will also be included but this was not showcased at the event. FIFA 13's Kinect functionality will also use voice commands in order to call for substitutions, as well as set formations. Players will also be able to yell at the refs, who may in turn flag you for it.
A trailer for the recently announced Gears of War: Judgment was shown and a vague release window of 2013 was teased after showing Baird being "escorted" in cuffs. A playable demo is rumored to be on the show floor when the event opens tomorrow. A trailer for Forza Horizon was also shown, indicating that it won't quite be a full simulation, nor an arcade experience, but something in between.
After an impressive demo of the game, it was announced that the new Tomb Raider title will feature DLC and will be coming to the Xbox 360 first. No details on what the DLC will entail were mentioned. Both Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 and Resident Evil 6 will also see timed-exclusive DLC for the Xbox 360.
After the Tomb Raider announcement, three trailers were shown for three new titles coming to the Xbox 360. First, from the developer of Toy Soldiers comes Ascend: New Gods. The trailer showed a red soldier with a scythe violently killing enemies. The game looks to offer plenty of gory action and a release date slated for 2013. Climbing up giant enemies indicates that the title could be drawing inspiration from Sony's Shadow of the Colossus.
Twisted Pixel will be producing LocoCycle and releasing it in 2013, but not much was shown of the 'Splosion Man developer's new title. A glimpse of a Tron Light Cycle-esque motorcycle named I.R.I.S. was seen and nothing more. Finally, a video showing Gore Verbinski's Matter for the Kinect was shown. The game, releasing in 2013, looks to draw inspiration from Portal's aesthetic, featuring various cubes that come together to form platforms a spherical robot can move on.
The new South Park RPG by Obsidian was also shown off in a trailer and a release date was given. The game will be released on March 5, 2013 for PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360. The Xbox 360 version will see three DLC packs before the two other versions and Kinect can be used to taunt the characters, including calling Cartman "a fat ass" and getting a response.
Wreckateer, the final new game was demoed, which will be released during the Summer of Arcade 2012. During the showcase, using Kinect, you control a catapult to blow up castles and other various structures. Seemingly inspired by Angry Birds, you will use different body motions to shoot ballistics and different types of limited ammo.
