Resident Evil 5: Alternative Edition Detailed

Extra episodes and costume packs will comprise the DLC pack.

In this week's Famitsu, Resident Evil 5: Alternative Edition was detailed. The pack, confirmed for DLC release, will include two separate missions as well as two costume packs, aside from the new motion and pointer controls.

The first of the missions will be Lost in Nightmares which stars Chris Redfield and Jill Valentine. According to Famitsu, the scenario will be similar to the original Resident Evil title. Players will wander Spencer's mansion in this hour long episode, encountering a brand new enemy as well as an undead guard.

The second mission was not detailed but will be similar in scope to Lost in Nightmares. Both missions will include costumes, EX figures, and two new characters for the new Mercenaries mode, The Mercenaries Reunion.

The mode will allow players to use a variety of character costumes and never-before-available characters. Two such costumes are Sheva's "Folklore" costume that gives her a maroon hood, and Chris' "Warrior" outfit that gives him an edgier look.

The DLC will be released on February 18 in Japan, hinting that Sony's new motion controller will be available on or before that date.

Players can pick up the game with all of the DLC for ¥4,990 ($56) or each of the DLC packs individually. The mission packs will be ¥500 each and the costume packs will sell for ¥200 each. If players purchase Alternative Edition in this fashion, they will have to wait for each piece as they will be released incrementally over the month of March.

Honestly, with no major announcement based on date at this point, it's tough to say when the controller will be released.

The one thing I don't understand, though, is why the staggered DLC? I'd honestly imagine in most cases, having all the DLC available at one individual point in time makes more sense than staggering it, so buyers don't forget about or ignore later offerings. That's an uneducated opinion, though.
