Nintendo always seems to aim at a younger audience which is why the Zelda/Dynasty Warriors mashup makes some sense. Zelda/Dark Souls would be incredibly awesome to me, but I bet they think it would target an older audience that doesn't play Wii-U. I mean, Dark Souls is rated M (17 and up) and Dynasty Warriors T (13 and up).
Giving Zelda to From Software

The Wii U has been in trouble for a long time. I believe there are multiple reasons. I believe one of the problems is the gamers that it doesn't attract. The games all lend themselves to that Nintendo quality. They don't have that third party support to back them up and I don't mean just with multiplatform games. I mean with unique IPs and more often, mature titles that would attract the audience that Microsoft and Sony has. What can be done by this? What could help push units for Nintendo?
I have been a big fan of Zelda. I haven't been as big as most the last few generations but I still love Link. The franchise has been great because of level design in how they are puzzles are incorporated within it. It was always fun to explore within its worlds. The series has always had some unique creative bosses. The story for the most part has been pretty passive. It has some of these similarities with Demon's Souls/Dark Souls. What am I getting at? Yeah, to make it blunt, From Software need to make the next Zelda title.
Nintendo has lent its IPs to many other developers such as Smash Bros, Metroid, and even Zelda in the past. Now the interesting thing is some of these similarities make it a smooth transition. Your probably think it’s too dark or too hard. These two things don't need to change but I do feel that to some extent they should be. Nintendo is no position to keep playing it easy. They should take risks. They did with Metroid by throwing it in First Person. I think having From Software take the reins is less of a risk and right now the popularity of Dark Souls is huge and would easily help the Wii U sale units. If they are going to continue to use their own franchises, they need to blend at least Zelda in with what people right now want and what Zelda fans can be happy with. I don't think all Zelda fans will like a transition. I don't blame them but it would do more good for Nintendo than it would for a minority of fans trolling their hate on boards.
Think about it. The Dark Souls franchise is more complex but in a good way. You throw that in a Zelda title; with a darker mood with big bad villains with Zelda's puzzle elements than you would have a hit. The boards have heated up for a spiritual successor of Demon's Souls. Just imagine what this would do? It would do a lot more than the ridiculous attempt to throw Zelda into a Dynasty Warrior looking clone. This is a better fit. This would succeed and would help the Wii U fly off shelves. I am not saying make it hard like Demon's Souls but have a similar gameplay style mixed with Zelda's own tools.
Whatever Nintendo does with Zelda (outside of Hyrule Warriors) I am sure it’s going to be incredible but I don't think it would push as many Wii U consoles unless it either follows in From Software's footsteps or co-develop with them. Nintendo though seems to have something multiplayer planned. It would be interesting to see considering From Software's innovative approach developing it within Demon's Souls and Dark Souls. Maybe they are taking cues from From Software. I would argue that Demon’s Souls is the most innovative multiplayer of the last generation and more games need to implement its approach making single player game co-op seamlessly transition within your own world and into others’. Zelda could take that approach and implementing it somewhat like they have co-op play in Four Swords but expanding it. It’s not hard to notice the popularity of From Software's series and the similarities between both franchises and how they could be fused into one incredible title.
