It will be interesting to see where the industry goes. I agree with Mike Wall, the AAA model is not sustainable and the knee-jerk reaction companies have taken to restrict consumer rights to squeeze pennies that will ultimately not fill the void is the elephant in the room. Which way are we going? Can more and varied games save the day? Will there be a competitive market to purchase them in? That's what I'm looking at this generation.

Perhaps I’m just becoming old and jaded, but I feel as if another E3 has come and gone and my enthusiasm is muted. Most of what interested me had already been a known or expected quantity before the show started. Of course, there’s no ignoring the two new systems that are due out this holiday season, but there was very little en route for either that caught my attention.
Don’t get me wrong, there’s no denying that Sony’s lack of DRM on the PS4 was a boon for gamers and a bit of news that will eventually entice me to purchase a PS4, but there’s really nothing pushing a day one investment for me.
In many ways, I feel like E3 is becoming something of a relic. This year’s show is probably the biggest and best we’ll see for many years to come and that’s tragic. Perhaps it’s the constant flow of news we currently receive, or the new communication channels the internet opens up for companies, but I feel like they all communicate much better in closed door events or on internet streams. Regardless, I’m sure the show is here to stay, but I know better at this point than to get too excited for it each year.
On a less negative note, I thought Nintendo’s new HD titles looked quite sharp and I’m largely excited for pretty much everything they have on the horizon for both the Wii U and the 3DS. I was certainly disappointed that they didn’t have any major surprises for us, but everything they did present will be fun for sure. Hearing about Mega Man coming to Smash Bros. was probably the most exciting announcement of the show for me.
More surprising (for me, at least) was how great Destiny looked. If they can somehow work out a local co-op mode for that, I can see Chessa and myself sinking an inordinate amount of time questing across the vast expanses of outer space.
